Accessibility Quality Engineer

Location: Plano, TX / Charlotte NC (Onsite)

Duration: 3 months

Role Overview

The Accessibility Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that digital products, applications, and content comply with accessibility standards and provide an inclusive user experience. This role partners with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and Quality Engineering teams to identify, evaluate, and remediate accessibility barriers. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in accessibility standards, assistive technologies, and testing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive accessibility evaluations of web, mobile, and desktop applications using manual and automated testing techniques.
  • Perform accessibility testing against WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards, W3C specifications, ADA requirements, and Section 508 compliance criteria.
  • Validate accessibility requirements throughout all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Evaluate applications using assistive technologies, including screen readers, screen magnifiers, and voice recognition software.
  • Identify and document accessibility issues impacting users with visual, motor, cognitive, and hearing impairments.
  • Create detailed accessibility defect documentation with reproduction steps, compliance violations, and remediation guidance.
  • Collaborate with development teams to investigate root causes and validate accessibility fixes.
  • Ensure adherence to ADA, Section 508, WCAG, and organizational accessibility standards.
Required Qualifications

Accessibility Expertise: A deep understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA), W3C standards, Accessible Rich Internet Applications (WAI-ARIA), Section 508, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ARIA attributes, semantic HTML, and experience testing web applications, mobile applications (iOS and Android), and responsive websites.

Accessibility Testing Tools: Hands-on experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Axe DevTools, Accessibility Insights, WAVE) and assistive technologies (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).

Quality Engineering Skills: Experience developing and executing accessibility test plans, strong defect management experience, and the ability to work within Agile, Scrum, or SAFe environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • IAAP certifications such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS).
  • Experience integrating accessibility testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with accessibility automation frameworks and scripting.
  • Experience supporting enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
