Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal
Kingfisher Veterinary Practice | Crewkerne, Somerset

Salary up to £75,000 DOE, Welcome Bonus up to £5,000, Relocation Allowance up to £5,000

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Kingfisher Vets, part of ivc, have been caring for pets across the local community for more than 100 years, and we’re now looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team.

With four practices across the region, there’s plenty of variety in this role. You’ll have the opportunity to work across different sites, see a diverse caseload and get to know our clients and patients across the local community. Occasional travel between branches is required, so a full driving licence is essential.

First Opinion With Plenty of Variety

This is a great opportunity for a vet who enjoys a good mix of consultations and surgery. You’ll see everything from routine first opinion cases through to emergency and critical care, so there’s plenty to keep you interested.

We’re keen to give our vets the clinical freedom to develop their own interests, whether that’s building confidence in a particular area or taking your skills to the next level.

A Purpose-Built Hospital With Great Facilities

Our main hospital in Crewkerne is purpose-built and well equipped with video endoscopy, digital dental radiography, ECG, multiparameter monitoring, tonometry and a fully equipped in-house laboratory.

We also have a visiting orthopaedic specialist, giving the team the opportunity to get involved with more advanced surgical cases while providing an excellent level of care for our patients.

A Team That Supports You

You’ll be joining a collaborative team of 9 Veterinary Surgeons and 18 RVNs, supported by a dedicated Client Care Team.
There’s a real wealth of experience across the practice and we’re big believers in sharing knowledge and supporting one another. Professional development is genuinely encouraged, with support available if you’d like to develop a particular clinical interest or work towards a certificate.

A Great Balance

This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week across four days, with a 1:3 Saturday morning rota (8:30am–1pm) on a sole-charge basis.

We’re also happy to consider part-time applicants working 30+ hours per week, and there are no out-of-hours requirements, giving you plenty of time to enjoy life outside the practice.

How We’ll Support You

At inspiring vet care, we’re committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

* Clear career pathways with progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership and specialist roles
* Funded learning and development, including CPD allowance and access to IVC Academy training centres and role-relevant courses
* £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet
* Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches and peer networks
* Support to develop clinical interests and expand your capabilities
* A collaborative, values-led culture focused on care, community and continuous improvement

What We Offer Our Team

* 6.6 weeks’ holiday, including bank holidays
* Private medical insurance
* Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy
* BVA membership, VDS cover & RCVS fees
* Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies)
* Retail discounts and cashback offers
* Reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets

We’re committed to supporting our people through career development opportunities, wellbeing initiatives and access to world-class learning resources.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take the next step in your career, inspiring vet care offers the support, opportunity and community to help you grow.
