We are recruiting a Senior Cloud Engineer to support the discovery and design of a future-state Google Cloud Platform environment within central government. The role will assess the existing platform, validate architectural decisions and ensure the proposed landing zone, governance and security models can be implemented effectively.

You will work closely with the Lead Cloud Architect, providing the technical depth required to identify implementation risks, test proposed approaches and align the target platform with Google Cloud best practice.

Role responsibilities
  • Assess the existing GCP estate, platform configuration and engineering practices.
  • Review GCP organisation administration, project governance and IAM controls.
  • Evaluate audit logging, Security Command Center and wider security capabilities.
  • Validate the technical feasibility of the proposed landing zone and governance model.
  • Identify implementation risks, technical dependencies and remediation priorities.
  • Develop proof-of-concepts for the target landing zone and project-vending approach.
  • Design and review Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Google Cloud Fabric.
  • Support CI/CD automation using tools such as GitHub Actions.

Key experience and requirements
  • Extensive GCP platform-engineering experience within large, complex organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of GCP Organisations, project governance, IAM and resource hierarchies.
  • Practical experience implementing enterprise-scale GCP landing zones.
  • Strong Terraform experience, ideally including Google Cloud Fabric.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or comparable tooling.
  • Knowledge of audit logging, Security Command Center and cloud-security controls.
  • Ability to assess existing estates, identify risks and build technical proof-of-concepts.
  • Active SC clearance or eligibility to obtain it; Google Professional Cloud Engineer and Terraform Associate certifications would be advantageous.
