Job description
At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.
Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.
About the Team:
The Manufacturing team owns all process development, fabrication strategy, and production equipment for Terran R, our next generation, reusable rocket. This team has a wide variety of responsibilities – from factory floor layout, to developing complex tooling for novel processes, and interfacing with our vehicle engineering team to heavily influence design of the rocket. We leverage our deep expertise to translate engineering requirements into highly optimized production lines, working cross functionally to consistently enhance the vehicle program.
About the Role:
In this role, the Supervisor, Laser Specialists will be responsible for leading and developing a team of laser specialists in executing large-scale tooling projects and precision inspections supporting Terran-R vehicle production. This role is instrumental in managing strategic development and daily execution of laser tracking operations, critical hardware installations, and inspection processes across our sites. The Supervisor owns team performance, safety, and asset readiness, translating engineering intent into reliable, shop-floor execution.
- Lead, supervise, and develop a growing team of highly skilled laser tracker technicians, providing daily technical direction, training, career development, and performance coaching, ensuring high performance while adhering to company guidelines
- Own the strategic planning and day-to-day execution of laser tracking and dimensional inspection work, setting and maintaining team priorities against evolving program schedules so hardware is delivered on-time, in-spec, and aligned with program needs
- Serve as the subject matter expert on laser tracking, Verisurf software, and dimensional inspection strategies, including data reporting and analysis
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Manufacturing, Engineering, Design, Procurement, and Quality, and support new product development so tooling and inspection strategies scale with the company's long-term goals for Terran-R
- Manage and supervise preventative maintenance (PM), calibration, and certification for laser tracking assets, including Leica, Faro, and API trackers, arms, and probes, while enforcing safety guidelines across all operations
- Own team operations, including license distribution (e.g., Verisurf), tracker scheduling, remote site support, and coordination across facilities
About You:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 10+ years of experience in toolmaking, laser tracking, or aerospace manufacturing, including 3+ years of leadership experience directly overseeing a team
- Advanced proficiency in Verisurf inspection software, including model manipulation, feature reporting, and alignment strategies
- Deep experience with Leica, Faro, and API laser trackers, as well as supporting hardware like arms and probes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead teams, coach performance, and influence cross-functional stakeholders
Nice to haves, but not required:
- Familiarity with aerospace hardware lifecycle, from prototype to flight production
- Experience building teams from the ground up, including hiring, onboarding, and mentorship
- Familiarity with AS9100 standards and their application to asset and inspection management
