About the Role:
This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented Software Engineer to join a cutting-edge team, focusing on the development and implementation of advanced algorithms for real-time embedded systems. You will play a crucial role across the full software development lifecycle, specifically contributing to flight safety and GPS-free navigation solutions for uncrewed autonomous systems. The role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a highly technical environment, enjoys tackling complex algorithmic challenges, and wants to see their work directly impact disruptive technologies in the aerospace and defence industries.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test high-performance embedded software algorithms for autonomous systems.
- Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment.
- Focus on real-time flight safety and GPS-free navigation solutions.
- Implement software engineering best practices, including design, coding standards, and testing.
- Write well-structured, efficient, documented, and thoroughly tested software.
- Participate in code reviews, source control management, and build processes.
- Collaborate closely with a highly technical team in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Requirements:
- Degree (ideally 2:1 or above) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2-3 years' professional experience with real-time embedded software algorithms development.
- Strong C++ experience, particularly within real-time, embedded, or safety-critical systems.
- Deep understanding of real-time systems, event-driven execution, and formal design methods.
- Proven expertise in test-driven development and verification techniques.
- Practical experience with software engineering best practice, including documentation and code review.
- Comfortable working within the defence industry and eligible for UK SC clearance.
- Must not be subject to non-UK export restrictions (e.g., US ITAR).
Compensation and benefits:
- Competitive salary package ranging from £39,000 to £49,000.
