Senior Cybersecurity Engineer

Project Introduction

The Department of Veterans Affairs Cybersecurity Operations and Services Enterprise (COSE) program delivers the enterprise cybersecurity operations, engineering, architecture, risk, and compliance support that safeguards VA systems, data, and mission delivery. The team helps strengthen the cyber resilience of the digital services relied on by Veterans, their families, and the VA workforce.

9th Way Insignia is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to support this program. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and assess security capabilities across identity, devices, networks, applications, data, and cloud platforms.
• Translate NIST, FISMA, RMF, FedRAMP, and agency security requirements into implementable technical controls.
• Support authorization activities by developing and reviewing system security documentation, control evidence, and remediation plans.
• Analyze vulnerabilities, control gaps, and security findings; develop technical recommendations and track resolution.
• Advise architects, engineers, system owners, and leadership on security design and risk treatment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
• Seven or more years of cybersecurity engineering, security architecture, or security assessment experience.
• Experience with RMF, NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP, and authorization-to-operate activities.
• Experience applying Zero Trust principles and assessing security controls in cloud, hybrid, or on-premises environments.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and brief stakeholders on security risks and recommendations.
