Retail Data Architect

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Retail Data Architect with strong expertise in modern data architecture, data modeling, retail domain knowledge, and cloud-native database technologies. The ideal candidate will support enterprise application modernization and data transformation initiatives, with a focus on scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement enterprise data architecture for large-scale data ingestion, management, delivery, and consumption.
• Design and develop OLTP and OLAP data models using Erwin, including complex, JSON-based, structured, and unstructured data.
• Reverse engineer existing data models and develop future-state architectures aligned with business and technical requirements.
• Design high-performance data models for modern web applications and enterprise platforms.
• Evaluate and recommend appropriate cloud database technologies, including Google Cloud Platform, DB2, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, BigQuery, and related platforms.
• Develop data architecture strategies, roadmaps, governance frameworks, metadata standards, and data quality processes.
• Support data migration, transformation, integration, warehousing, data lakes, analytics, reporting, and visualization initiatives.
• Ensure data architecture meets security, compliance, performance, scalability, and business requirements.
• Collaborate with business teams, project managers, architects, developers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, workflows, data dependencies, and system integrations.
• Apply Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles, architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices.
• Identify opportunities to optimize cost, performance, technology, and resource utilization.
• Provide technical guidance on architecture, technology selection, solution design, and implementation.
• Review technical designs, estimates, resource plans, risks, and architectural quality for complex projects.
• Provide mentoring, training, and technical guidance to junior data modelers and architects.
• Support technical evaluations of candidates and contribute to knowledge-sharing and capability development.
• Participate in technology consulting, solution planning, RFPs, proposals, client presentations, and architecture roadmaps as needed.
• Stay current with emerging data, cloud, and architecture technologies and identify opportunities for innovation and reusable solutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Data Architecture.
• 3+ years of experience in Data Modeling.
• 4+ years of experience with Erwin Data Modeling tools.
• Expertise in OLTP and OLAP data modeling, including complex and JSON data structures.
• Strong understanding of data architecture, data governance, metadata management, and data quality.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and cloud-native data architectures.
• Hands-on experience with DB2, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, BigQuery, and other database technologies.
• Strong experience with RDBMS, SQL, NoSQL databases, cloud computing, and data modeling.
• Experience with data integration, migration, transformation, warehousing, and data lakes.
• Strong retail domain knowledge, including retail workflows, business processes, and data dependencies.
• Proven experience modernizing and rearchitecting legacy enterprise data models and applications.
• Understanding of Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles and architecture patterns.
• Knowledge of data security, backup/recovery, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively in onsite/offshore delivery models.
• Self-driven and adaptable with the ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate ambiguity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
• Experience leading data architecture discussions with business and technical stakeholders.
• Exposure to distributed systems and cloud-native application architectures.
• Architect or Big Data certification in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Hadoop technologies such as MapReduce, Hive, or Pig.
• Programming experience with Python and/or Java.
• Experience with data visualization and streaming technologies.
• Strong documentation skills, including PowerPoint and Visio.
• Experience creating architecture roadmaps, technical documentation, case studies, and knowledge-sharing materials.
