Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of secure AWS cloud environments supporting critical enterprise and government workloads. This role will focus on embedding security into every stage of the cloud lifecycle while ensuring platforms align with Zero Trust principles, cloud governance standards, and compliance frameworks including ISM and IRAP.

Working alongside platform engineers, security specialists, and application teams, you'll help shape secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions across a complex multi-cloud environment with a strong AWS focus.

About the Role

As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and securing cloud infrastructure, integrating security controls into automated deployment pipelines, and driving cloud security best practices across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement secure AWS cloud architectures aligned to Zero Trust principles.
  • Develop and enforce cloud security controls across AWS environments, including IAM, encryption, monitoring, and policy management.
  • Implement and maintain Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) capabilities and tooling.
  • Integrate security controls into Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD delivery pipelines.
  • Support vulnerability management and remediation activities across cloud workloads.
  • Ensure cloud platforms align with Australian Government security frameworks including ISM, PSPF and IRAP requirements.
  • Design and deploy secure, scalable cloud infrastructure using automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Collaborate with platform engineering and application teams to embed security throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of cloud security standards, governance, and engineering practices.
  • Support security initiatives across broader cloud environments, including Azure where required.
Qualifications Essential Experience
  • Proven experience designing, building and securing AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS security services, including:
    • IAM
    • AWS Organizations
    • Security Hub
    • GuardDuty
    • AWS Config
    • KMS
    • CloudTrail
  • Experience implementing identity and access management controls and federation solutions.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and compliance frameworks, including:
    • ISM
    • IRAP
    • NIST
    • PSPF
  • Experience embedding security controls into DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work across security, engineering and governance teams.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience supporting multi-cloud environments including Azure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender for Cloud or other CSPM solutions.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps methodologies and security automation.
  • Experience working within government or highly regulated environments.
