We are looking for a skilled and proactive Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join our manufacturing site in Preston. This is a key role within our Maintenance team, supporting the reliability, efficiency and continuous improvement of our highly automated production plant.

The Person

We are looking for a technically strong electrically biased Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer who thrives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will be a hands-on problem solver with excellent fault-finding skills and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. You will have experience working with automated manufacturing equipment and be comfortable diagnosing electrical faults while supporting mechanical maintenance activities when required.

You will be safety conscious, detail focused and committed to continuous improvement, helping to reduce downtime and maximise equipment reliability and performance.

The Role

As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias), reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving a wide range of automated manufacturing equipment and production systems.

You will support both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown activities while working collaboratively with production teams and fellow engineers to ensure safe, reliable and efficient plant operation.

Whilst this role has a strong electrical focus, you will also support wider multi-skilled maintenance activities across site.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance & Fault Finding

Diagnose and repair electrical faults across automated production equipment.

Investigate root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.

Support improvements to equipment reliability and performance.

Automation & Control Systems

Maintain and fault-find on control panels, motors, drives, sensors and associated equipment.

Support PLC fault diagnosis and troubleshooting activities.

Assist with automation and controls improvement projects.

Planned & Reactive Maintenance

Complete preventative maintenance activities in line with maintenance schedules.

Respond to equipment breakdowns and restore plant operation safely and efficiently.

Ensure maintenance activities are recorded accurately within the maintenance management system.

Mechanical Support

Support mechanical maintenance activities when required.

Work with pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical systems across the manufacturing plant.

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve asset reliability.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects.

Contribute to the development of best practice maintenance standards.

Health, Safety & Quality

Comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.

Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with company standards.

Support audit and compliance requirements as necessary.

Requirements

Essential

NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Completed recognised apprenticeship in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.

Previous experience within an industrial manufacturing maintenance environment.

Strong electrical fault-finding experience.

Experience maintaining automated production machinery and equipment.

Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

Good IT skills and experience maintaining maintenance records.

Desirable

PLC fault-finding experience.

Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.

IPAF licence.

FLT licence.

Basic welding experience.
