Job Description

Location: Detroit, MI (Onsite)
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Rate: $50-$55/hr (Contract-to-Hire)
Schedule: 2nd Shift | 4:30 PM - 2:30 AM
About the Role
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support a highly automated manufacturing facility. This engineer will serve as a technical resource for PLC programming, controls troubleshooting, robotics, vision systems, electrical controls, and automation initiatives across the facility. This role plays a key part in maintaining and improving automated production equipment while supporting new automation projects.
What You'll Do
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC, robotic, and machine control issues impacting production
  • Support Allen Bradley PLC systems, HMI applications, and industrial automation equipment
  • Commission new equipment including I/O checkout, startup support, and functional testing
  • Diagnose electrical controls, machine faults, and automation system failures
  • Maintain and modify HMI displays using FactoryTalk and Studio 5000 platforms
  • Support robotics, vision systems, and machine safety devices throughout the plant
  • Partner with manufacturing, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of controls, automation, or industrial engineering ownership and experience
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, RSLogix 500/5000, or Studio 5000
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and schematic-reading abilities
  • Experience with HMI systems such as FactoryTalk View or PanelView
  • Familiarity with industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, or IO-Link
  • Experience supporting robotics and automated manufacturing equipment
  • Exposure to vision systems such as Cognex, Keyence, IFM, or Omron preferred
