Job Description

Site Maintenance & Facilities Operative – Full Time (Circa 40 hours per week)

Dogs 4 Rescue

Based across our Irlam and Accrington sites.

Help us create a safe, secure and happy environment for rescue dogs.

As the UK's pioneering kennel-free rescue, we've created a unique environment where dogs live together as a family, building confidence, learning social skills and getting a second chance at life. Every dog has a story, and we're looking for a practical, hands-on Site Maintenance & Facilities Operative to help write the next chapter. 

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys outdoor work, takes pride in fixing and building things, and wants to use their skills to make a real difference to the lives of rescue dogs.

What you'll do

  • Repair and maintain fencing, gates and site security
  • Carry out joinery and carpentry projects, including pods, shelters and outdoor structures
  • Perform general repairs and site maintenance
  • Assist with improvements to our rescue facilities and dog living areas
  • Liaise with the relevant manager before starting improvement works, agreeing the best solution, expected outcome, timescales and budget before proceeding
  • Identify and resolve maintenance issues quickly and safely
  • Liaise with contractors and managers where specialist repairs, quotes or approvals are required
  • Ensure the site remains safe, secure and well presented
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe, organised and serviceable condition
  • Use Google Sheets and agreed systems to accurately record work carried out, materials used, orders placed and outstanding maintenance tasks

 

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • Good all-round maintenance, repair and DIY skills
  • Experience of fencing, joinery, carpentry or construction work
  • Ability to work independently and manage your workload, prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • Practical problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to completing work safely and to a high standard
  • Able to follow instructions, health and safety procedures, and agreed working practices
  • Able to work within agreed plans, budgets and ordering processes, seeking approval before making changes or purchases
  • Confident using Google Sheets or similar systems to update records clearly and accurately
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, volunteers and external contractors
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Confident working safely around dogs in a busy rescue environment

Desirable:

  • Gas qualifications and experience
  • Electrical qualifications and experience
  • Plumbing experience
  • Experience working within animal welfare, agriculture or a charity setting
