Head of Fraud Strategy

Our client, a fast growing bank, specialising in Payments and Correspondent Banking are looking for a Head of Fraud Strategy to build and lead a fraud function from the ground up. The role will be a strong fit for candidates who have deep expertise within Financial Crime / Fraud.

This is an opportunity to shape a fraud operating model, migrating existing processes into formal case management, and setting the strategic direction for how fraud risk is identified, investigated and managed as the business scales. The role is based in London.

The Role

This fast growing global bank, is investing in fraud as a strategic priority, not a cost centre. You'd be working closely with data and analytics, first line and front-line teams, and reporting into leadership who are genuinely looking for a fresh perspective rather than someone to rubber-stamp the status quo. The role consists of designing the operating model, not implementing someone else's. You'll decide how risk is weighted, how cases are investigated, how the front line is advised.

Key Responsibilities

1. Designing and implementing a scalable fraud operating model suited to a growing business
2. Taking ownership of existing fraud processes and leading their migration into a structured case management framework
3. Bringing genuine risk appetite and commercial judgement to fast-moving, ambiguous decisions
4. Partnering closely with data and analytics teams to shape fraud strategy and detection capability
5. Advising front-line and first-line teams, supporting sound, well-reasoned decision-making
6. Acting as a subject matter expert on fraud within the payments space

The Candidate

1. Proven experience in fraud strategy, investigation or risk management within payments or financial services
2. Comfortable building something from scratch — you thrive without an existing playbook
3. Strong analytical mindset with experience working alongside data/analytics teams
4. A confident, decisive risk-taker who owns their calls
5. AVP/VP level experience, ideally gained within a bank, PSP or fintech/payments business
6. Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
