Senior Database Administrator – Azure SQL / Amazon RDS / Percona MySQL (Healthcare SaaS)

Overview
NDA Partners is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to own production database operations for a healthcare technology platform delivering risk adjustment, quality, and value-based care solutions. You’ll administer Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, and Percona MySQL in high-availability, high-transaction, 24×7 SaaS environments, with emphasis on healthcare data security, performance, disaster recovery, and automation. This is a hands-on role with little supervision, an on-call rotation, and a mentoring responsibility toward DBA I/II and database engineers.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Azure SQL (Database and Managed Instance), Amazon RDS, and Percona MySQL in high-volume, highly transactional production environments
• Design, monitor, test, and improve high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions; validate RPO/RTO, backup integrity, replication, and failover through regular DR exercises
• Implement and maintain database configurations, security controls (encryption, auditing, access controls), maintenance procedures, backup/recovery, and monitoring standards
• Performance tuning and troubleshooting across engines, OS, cloud infrastructure, storage, networking, and application layers — execution plans, wait stats, blocking, deadlocks, indexing, statistics, query optimization
• Provision, configure, scale, secure, and operate Amazon RDS deployments; manage Percona MySQL replication, XtraBackup, upgrades, and migrations
• Review schemas, database changes, and application SQL for performance, reliability, security, and supportability; support application debugging across the app/database boundary
• Automate routine DBA activities with PowerShell, Python, or Bash, cloud services, and infrastructure automation
• Lead database migrations and modernization (on-prem ↔ cloud, cross-platform)
• Evaluate new database technologies, cloud services, and monitoring platforms
• Participate in on-call rotation and production incident resolution
• Maintain accurate documentation of environments, configurations, procedures, and recovery processes
• Mentor junior DBAs and serve as a technical resource across engineering

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of DBA experience, or 6+ years of equivalent professional DBA experience
• Hands-on production administration of Azure SQL / cloud-hosted SQL Server, Amazon RDS, and Percona MySQL or MySQL in high-volume environments
• Experience protecting regulated healthcare or similarly sensitive data — encryption, auditing, access controls, security remediation
• Experience operating against defined RPO, RTO, availability, and data-retention requirements
• Experience supporting 24×7 SaaS or mission-critical production platforms
• Proven ability to maintain data integrity across high-volume ingestion, replication, or integration processes
• Strong database design, configuration, and production administration knowledge
• Writing, maintaining, and debugging complex T-SQL and MySQL stored procedures
• High-availability, replication, failover, backup/recovery, DR, and business-continuity experience across Azure SQL, Percona MySQL, and/or RDS
• Expert-level performance tuning: execution plans, indexing, statistics, blocking, deadlocks, wait statistics, resource utilization
• Cloud database administration including monitoring, security, scaling, availability, backup/recovery, and cost management
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and participate in on-call
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to document and explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Azure: Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Monitor, Azure networking/storage/security; cloud SQL Server migrations
• AWS: Amazon RDS, EC2, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC; supporting serverless/event-driven workloads (Lambda, SQS, EventBridge Scheduler) including database connectivity
• Percona Server for MySQL, Percona XtraBackup, MySQL replication technologies
• Large-scale, high-volume, highly transactional environments
• Monitoring/observability: LogicMonitor, New Relic, Azure Monitor, CloudWatch, or similar
• Automation and scripting: PowerShell, Python, Bash
• Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, CI/CD, automated database deployments
• Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, or similar data integration platforms
• .NET / C# / VB.NET, XML, REST APIs, SOA, or object-oriented development
• Enterprise data governance, security, auditing, and compliance (HIPAA)
• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related field
