Location: Tysons, VA
Duration: 6 months Contract to hire

IT Manager Position Summary
Client is looking for an experienced and highly motivated IT Manager to join our growing team. The IT Manager will report to the XXXXX, manage 2-3 technical team members (Helpdesk Analyst and Systems Administrator), and work closely with a 3rd Party IT Consultant and Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP).

The successful candidate will be a hands-on IT leader with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills who can balance day-to-day needs with long-term technology planning. This individual should be detail-oriented and strategic, with the ability to identify gaps, establish scalable processes, bridge IT and business needs, and drive solutions through completion. A strong sense of ownership, accountability, sound judgment, and a proactive can-do attitude are essential. The candidate will take responsibility for outcomes, follow issues through resolution, and proactively communicate risks and progress.

Core Responsibilities

The IT Manager will:

  • Manage daily IT operations, including help desk performance, ticket priorities, escalations, service levels, and timely resolution. Own issues through closure with appropriate follow-up, communication, and documentation.
  • Provide hands-on Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support and troubleshoot complex or recurring technology issues, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop internal IT team members and coordinate effectively with external IT and cybersecurity partners.
  • Manage Microsoft 365, cloud applications, endpoints, networks, infrastructure, and other corporate technology platforms.
  • Identify gaps in IT operations, systems, processes, documentation, and controls; develop scalable solutions and drive improvements through completion.
  • Lead technology projects, implementations, integrations, hardware refreshes, and other IT initiatives from planning through execution, with clear priorities, ownership, timelines, and follow-through.
  • Support and maintain client s CMMC Level 2 and NIST 800-171 compliance and certification readiness, including technical controls, documentation, remediation activities, and coordination with cybersecurity partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor cybersecurity risks and work with the MSSP and other partners to address vulnerabilities, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Manage IT assets, software licensing, vendor relationships, contracts, renewals, and technology budgets.
  • Partner with business and operational teams to understand needs, bridge technology gaps, and implement practical solutions that improve the end-user experience.
  • Anticipate future technology, infrastructure, and support needs; identify risks and recurring issues; and develop actionable plans that support client's growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant technical experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading and managing an IT team.
  • Prior experience working in a cloud-first workplace productivity environment for a mid-sized company (150 to 300+ users), including support for remote/hybrid personnel.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify operational gaps, establish processes, and drive initiatives from planning through implementation and follow-through.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to think strategically, prioritize effectively, and plan for longer-term technology needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proactive, solutions-oriented, can-do approach and a demonstrated record of ownership, accountability, dependability, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with a federal government contractor in a Microsoft 365 GCC C High environment.
  • Prior experience supporting NIST 800-171 and CMMC Level 2 compliance and certification readiness.
  • Prior experience working with Microsoft Intune and Entra.
  • Experience creating standard operating procedures and developing runbooks in an ITSM platform.
  • ITIL Certification and/or experience implementing and executing standard ITIL-based practices and processes.
  • Cybersecurity experience, including identifying and responding to potential security issues, vulnerabilities, phishing attempts, and suspicious activity.
