Job Description

Technical Lead – Full Stack Data Platforms
Location - Boston, MA (Hybrid)
Local Only

Technical leadership

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of data platform applications, from user interface and service layer to data integration and cloud infrastructure
  • Lead and mentor a team of 5–15 full stack and data engineers across onshore and offshore locations, setting priorities, assigning work, and growing individual capabilities
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for code quality, API design, testing, security, and documentation; lead code and design reviews
  • Make and document key architectural decisions, evaluating build-versus-buy options, technology choices, and tradeoffs with clear rationale
  • Serve as the senior technical point of contact for client stakeholders, leading design workshops, presenting architecture to engineering and business leaders, and building trusted relationships
  • Plan and estimate delivery, break work into milestones, manage technical risk, and hold teams accountable to fixed-timeline commitments
  • Contribute to pre-sales and pursuits: shape solution approaches, write technical sections of proposals, size effort, and present to prospective clients
  • Drive reuse across engagements by building accelerators and contributing to the practice's shared frameworks and best practices
  • Hire and onboard engineers, participating in interviews and defining role expectations

Hands-on engineering

  • Design and build full stack applications for data platforms and tooling, including configuration UIs, monitoring dashboards, and self-service portals
  • Develop responsive, component-based front ends in React with TypeScript, including state management, forms, data grids, and visualizations
  • Build backend services and APIs in Node.js and Python (FastAPI, Express, or similar), with sound API design, authentication and authorization, and clean service boundaries
  • Architect reusable, configuration-driven frameworks and libraries rather than one-off code, with plugin-style extensibility
  • Develop data integration components that move data from databases, files, and APIs into cloud warehouses and data lakes, including full and incremental loads
  • Integrate applications with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or Dagster
  • Design relational data models and work extensively with PostgreSQL and at least one cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, or similar)
  • Deploy and operate applications on AWS using containers, managed databases, object storage, and secrets management
  • Establish infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated test coverage across front end and backend
  • Build observability into applications through logging, metrics, alerting, and audit trails
  • Guide the responsible use of LLM-powered features where they add real value, using platforms such as Amazon Bedrock or OpenAI
  • Produce design documentation and lead knowledge transfer to client teams

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of overall IT industry experience, with at least 7 years of hands-on full stack development
  • 3+ years in a technical lead, lead engineer, or architect role, directly leading engineering teams and owning delivery outcomes
  • Proven track record delivering production data platforms or enterprise applications end to end, from architecture through go-live
  • Experience leading distributed onshore and offshore teams, including work planning, mentoring, and performance feedback
  • Expert React and TypeScript/JavaScript skills, with production applications to show for it
  • Strong backend development experience in both Node.js and Python
  • Deep experience designing RESTful APIs and service architectures, including OAuth2/SSO integration
  • Strong SQL and relational database design skills, ideally PostgreSQL
  • Hands-on experience designing data integration or ETL/ELT solutions: extracting from databases, files, and APIs and loading into analytical stores
  • Hands-on AWS architecture experience (ECS/EKS or Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, or equivalents)
  • Docker, Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (Terraform or AWS CDK)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a track record of leading client-facing technical discussions, presenting architecture to senior stakeholders, and influencing decisions
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under fixed timelines and ambiguous requirements

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Consulting or professional services experience, including pre-sales, solutioning, and effort estimation
  • Experience building internal developer tools, low-code/configuration-driven platforms, or metadata-driven frameworks
  • Apache Airflow or Dagster
  • Change data capture tools such as Debezium, or experience with Kafka
  • Snowflake development and architecture experience
  • Data lineage, catalog, or data quality tooling (OpenLineage, OpenMetadata, Great Expectations, or similar)
  • Designing and leading delivery of LLM-powered or agentic features in production applications
  • Experience in financial services or other regulated industries, including security and compliance requirements
  • Agile delivery leadership (Scrum or Kanban), such as running sprint planning and backlog refinement
  • AWS (Solutions Architect) or Snowflake certifications
