Lead STEM Instructor – NYC (On-Site)

Launch Math + Science Centers
Site Location:
 173 W 81st Street, New York, NY 10024
Type: Part-Time, 20-25 hours/week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, approximately 1:15 PM - 6:15 PM (Peak Program Hours)
Compensation: $22.50 - $27.50 per hour (based on experience), plus discretionary annual performance-based bonus
Reports to: Assistant Director


Role Summary

Launch Math + Science Centers is looking for a motivated Lead STEM Instructor to be the face of Launch’s afterschool programs. This is a "Player-Coach" role perfect for an educator or a recent STEM graduate looking to gain management experience. This team member supervises and leads Launch’s exciting science, technology, engineering, and math programs while also ensuring that the daily operations run smoothly, including executing student check-ins, organizing materials, and supporting the teaching staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Readiness: Arrive to review daily rosters, set up technology, prepare math assignments, organize STEM class materials (“kits"), and ensure the center is clean and professional.
  • Flow Management: Manage and execute the student check-in/out process, serving as the main point of contact for parents at the door.
  • Active Instruction: Lead Launch’s math enrichment program and STEM classes for Pre-K to 8th grade students, ensuring that every child is entertained, engaged, and learning.
  • Daily Problem-Solving: Act as the first responder for site needs, such as missing materials or student behavior, escalating complex issues to the Assistant Director.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (completed or in-progress) in a STEM field or Education.
  • Experience: 1+ year of experience working with kids (tutoring, camp, or classroom). Previous experience as a "Head Counselor" or "Lead Tutor" is a major plus.
  • Soft Skills: High energy, extremely punctual, and able to multitask during busy transition periods.
  • Tech Savvy: Comfortable using laptops and tablets and simple database tools to track student progress.
  • Hourly compensation: $22.50 - $27.50 (based on experience), plus discretionary annual performance-based bonus
