Job Description

Background

Under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local governments must make their websites and mobile apps accessible by April 26, 2027. LADBS is engaging a Web Developer to implement WCAG 2.1 web accessibility standards, improve website features based on user feedback, create new pages, refresh graphic design, and ensure a responsive, high-performing site across browsers and devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, manage, monitor, and upgrade the organization's website
  • Respond to and troubleshoot all website issues
  • Create appropriate website content aligned to the organization's strategy
  • Ensure website quality and efficiency by conducting regular test plans
  • Collaborate with staff and management to ensure the website aligns with brand strategy and organizational standards
  • Create, upload, and maintain website content (imagery, files, text) using a Drupal Content Management Framework
  • Participate in user interface design as needed
  • Post documents and announcements on the website
  • Provide expertise and support to end users and other IT support team members
  • Edit basic web content using HTML within a CMS
  • Ensure PDF files comply with ADA and WCAG 2.0 conformance standards and modify when needed
  • Create new pages: design layout, incorporate content, ensure consistency with site design and branding
  • Update and enhance graphic design of existing pages revise layouts, update images, refresh aesthetics
  • Verify all site links work correctly; identify and correct broken links or inaccurate information
  • Optimize page layouts for responsiveness across browsers and devices
  • Test and optimize site performance for accessibility and smooth user experience
  • Deliver a feature-complete LADBS website, signed off by upper management
  • Provide weekly and monthly status reports and facilitate status meetings

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Information Technology
  • 5+ years of experience in Drupal administration
  • 5+ years of experience in design, testing, implementation, documentation, and support of web design
  • Experience using Content Management Systems (Drupal)
  • Experience with HTML5 and CSS
  • Experience performing website maintenance
  • Experience posting and modifying web content
  • Knowledge of best practices for web creation
  • Understanding of responsive design principles and multi-platform web solutions
  • Proficiency in writing technical documentation
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and evaluate complex information and data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Gmail

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with design applications: Figma, Adobe XD, Zeplin
  • Experience building responsive web pages visually accurate to provided graphic designs
  • Strong attention to detail for Quality Assurance

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication with all levels of management, customers, project teams, and staff
  • High proficiency establishing and maintaining effective working relationships across departments
  • Experience working respectfully in a culturally diverse environment
