Job Title: Java Developer with Mainframe Experience

Location: Jersey City, NJ

Job Type: Contract

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer with Mainframe experience to design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Java development, backend technologies, and integration with legacy mainframe systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based enterprise applications.

  • Develop backend services and REST APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.

  • Work on mainframe systems, including application integration, data processing, and legacy system modernization.

  • Integrate Java applications with mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.

  • Analyze existing mainframe applications and support migration or modernization initiatives.

  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.

  • Collaborate with architects, business analysts, QA teams, and other developers.

  • Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and deployment activities.

  • Work with relational databases and optimize SQL queries for application performance.

  • Follow coding standards, security practices, and Agile development methodologies.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience in Core Java, J2EE, and object-oriented programming.

  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices.

  • Experience working with mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, or VSAM.

  • Knowledge of Java-to-mainframe integration and legacy application support.

  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.

  • Familiarity with Git, Maven, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mainframe modernization or migration to Java-based applications.

  • Exposure to IBM z/OS and mainframe batch processing.

  • Experience with banking, financial services, or other enterprise applications.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
