Job Description
Mechanical Designer/Drafter III - SolidWorks | Norwich, CT, United States | Hybrid
We're hiring on behalf of a respected federal government contractor renowned for its critical support of national priority programs. This organization leverages expertise across IT, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training to deliver strategic solutions. The Role
• Conduct ship checks on various submarine classes, including SSN 688/688I, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, and OHIO (SSBN/SSGN).
• Research submarine construction drawings utilizing the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System.
• Create and optimize mechanical designs using SolidWorks 3D solid modeling.
• Develop 2D Installation & Arrangement drawings in SolidWorks, adhering to Military Specifications.
• Apply ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
• Mentor and guide junior Designer/Drafter I & II colleagues.
What You'll Need
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship required for security clearance purposes.
• High School Diploma or GED, plus a Technical School CAD Certificate or an Associate's/Bachelor's Degree in Drafting/CAD Design or an Engineering discipline.
• Physical capability to perform ship checks on U.S. Nuclear Submarines, including comfort in confined spaces and ability to climb vertical ladders.
• 3-4 years of experience creating 2D and 3D drawings using SolidWorks.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Adobe PDF tools.
