Role: Solution Architect Retail Applications & Digital Solutions

Location: Niles, Illinois
Work Arrangement: Hybrid 3 days onsite (Tuesday Thursday)

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the architecture and design of enterprise retail applications and digital solutions. The candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, internal technology teams, and offshore delivery teams to design scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions aligned with business requirements.

The role requires strong expertise in application architecture, Microsoft Azure, .NET/C#, Angular, SQL Server, REST APIs, and enterprise integrations, along with the ability to provide technical leadership throughout the solution delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Design

• Define end-to-end solution architecture based on business requirements and enterprise standards.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical architecture and design specifications.
• Evaluate technology options and recommend scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
• Define application components, integration patterns, data flows, security, and deployment architecture.

Application & Integration Architecture

• Design enterprise applications, APIs, cloud services, databases, and workflow automation solutions.
• Define integration strategies across enterprise applications and third-party systems.
• Establish standards for API design, authentication, logging, monitoring, and error handling.
• Lead application modernization, re-platforming, and cloud migration initiatives.

Technical Leadership & Governance

• Provide technical guidance to development teams and review solution designs and implementation approaches.
• Establish reusable architecture patterns, technical standards, and best practices.
• Conduct architecture reviews and identify technical risks and performance bottlenecks.
• Ensure compliance with security, scalability, availability, and disaster recovery requirements.

Performance & Operational Excellence

• Define performance, scalability, availability, and security requirements.
• Recommend architectural improvements based on performance testing and production issues.
• Define monitoring, logging, alerting, backup, and recovery strategies.
• Support root-cause analysis and recommend long-term solutions to recurring issues.

Stakeholder & Delivery Collaboration

• Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, product owners, and technology stakeholders.
• Coordinate with onsite stakeholders and offshore development teams.
• Support technical estimations, dependency identification, and delivery planning.
• Communicate architecture decisions, technical risks, and recommendations effectively.

Required Skills & Experience

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering, application architecture, or solution delivery.
• Strong experience in enterprise application architecture and end-to-end solution design.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud architecture.
• Strong technical expertise in .NET/C#, Angular, and SQL Server.
• Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and enterprise integration patterns.
• Understanding of application security, identity management, SSO, RBAC, and data protection.
• Experience with performance engineering, scalability, availability, monitoring, and production support.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, source control, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
• Excellent technical documentation, analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.

Good to Have:

• Microsoft Power Platform Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse.
• Experience with retail, consumer goods, beverage distribution, or supply chain applications.
• Knowledge of POS, inventory management, demand forecasting, order management, sales operations, and distribution systems.
• Experience with legacy application modernization and migration to modern web-based platforms.
