Part-Time Painter, Decorator & Grounds Maintenance

At The Beehive Project, our mission is to support young people from a range of backgrounds, including those with mental health needs, care leavers, Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASCs), and individuals transitioning from residential care back into the community.

We provide a range of accommodation and support services for young people aged 16–25 at different stages of their journey towards independence.

An important part of providing high-quality support is ensuring that our homes are safe, clean, welcoming and well maintained. We are therefore looking for a practical and reliable Painter, Decorator & Grounds Maintenance Person to work across our properties in Southampton.

The Role

You will be responsible for helping maintain the appearance and condition of The Beehive Project’s properties, carrying out painting, decorating, minor maintenance and external grounds work.

You will work across a number of our supported accommodation properties and will need to be comfortable organising your workload, moving between sites and completing jobs to a good standard.

Duties

• Carry out internal and external painting and decorating.
• Prepare surfaces including filling, sanding, sealing and making good damaged areas.
• Paint walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards, woodwork and communal areas.
• Carry out touch-up work and redecoration between residents where required.
• Assist with minor property repairs and general maintenance tasks.
• Identify and report larger maintenance issues requiring specialist contractors.
• Help prepare bedrooms and properties ahead of new residents moving in.
• Maintain gardens and external areas across our properties.
• Cut grass and maintain lawns.
• Trim hedges, shrubs and overgrown vegetation.
• Carry out weeding and general garden maintenance.
• Clear leaves, rubbish and debris from gardens and outside areas.
• Keep entrances, pathways, bin areas and communal external spaces clean and presentable.
• Support seasonal maintenance of gardens and outdoor spaces.
• Ensure tools, paints and equipment are stored safely and securely.
• Work safely within properties occupied by young people and follow organisational safeguarding procedures.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when working around young people.
• Complete jobs efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
• Liaise with managers and staff regarding maintenance priorities.
• Help identify preventative maintenance that could reduce future property repairs.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work where required.
• Follow health and safety, COSHH and safe-working

• Previous experience in painting and decorating.
• Good practical maintenance skills.
• Experience with basic gardening and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to prepare surfaces and achieve a good-quality decorative finish.
• Comfortable carrying out minor repairs and general property maintenance.
• Good verbal and written English.
• Ability to organise and manage your own workload.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
• Reliable, punctual and proactive.
• Able to work respectfully within homes occupied by young people.
• Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Awareness of health and safety when working with tools, ladders, chemicals and decorating products.
• A full UK driving licence is highly desirable, as the role involves travelling between Beehive properties.
• Own transport would be desirable.
• Willingness to complete an Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS, which we can arrange at the company’s expense.
• Must have the right to work in the UK.

Previous experience within supported housing, social care, residential services or similar environments would be beneficial, but is not essential.
