Our client, a well-established engineering business, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join their team in Birmingham. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical design, strong 3D CAD capabilities, and a practical understanding of engineering calculations and manufacturing processes.

Senior Design Engineer Permanent Position<br />Salary:

Competitive (DOE)<br />Monday to Friday<br />Birmingham Senior Design Engineer • Design and develop valves, hydraulic products, and mechanical assemblies from concept through to production<br />• Produce detailed engineering drawings and 3D CAD models in line with BS8888 standards<br />• Create and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and design records<br />• Carry out engineering calculations including pressure and flow calculations using MathCAD templates and hand calculations where required<br />• Support the industrialisation of products, ensuring designs are optimised for manufacture and assembly<br />• Work closely with manufacturing, production, and quality teams to ensure robust product delivery<br />• Modify and improve existing products to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability<br />• Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities<br />• Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle<br />• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and customer requirements<br />• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing processes Senior Design Engineer Essential Experience / Skills / Qualifications • 7+ years' experience in a Senior Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, or similar position<br />• Experience within the valve and/or hydraulics industry is essential<br />• Strong 3D CAD experience, with exposure to SolidWorks beneficial but not essential<br />• Excellent design and draughting capability with experience working to BS8888 standards<br />• Experience producing engineering drawings for manufacture and assembly<br />• Good understanding of engineering calculations, including pressure and flow calculations<br />• Basic understanding of FEA principles and hand calculations<br />• Experience using or exposure to MathCAD would be advantageous<br />• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles<br />• Experience supporting products from design through to productionisation<br />• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multifunctional teams<br />• Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline<br />• Strong communication and organisational skills Senior Design Engineer Desirable Experience<br />• Exposure to validation and verification activities<br />• Knowledge of pressure vessel, fluid handling, or hydraulic systems design<br />• Experience working within regulated engineering environments<br />• Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles<br />• Experience leading design reviews and mentoring junior engineers If you feel you're a good fit for this position, please click 'apply
