Senior Java Developer - AGS

Team & Reporting Line

The FM Digital Channels team is responsible for cross-product transactional pricing of derivatives within the bank. The culture is open, intellectual, and fun with plentiful learning opportunities and career advancement for high-performing talent.

Location & Work Mode

Based in London, UK with a flexible hybrid arrangement: 2 days per week onsite and 3 days working from home.

Key Responsibilities

1. Drive platform development and deliver quality solutions for business-critical customer requirements
2. Collaborate with fellow technologists, business analysts, project managers, and business stakeholders across multiple global locations
3. Take full ownership and responsibility for the complete development lifecycle
4. Design, develop, and support end-to-end financial markets systems
5. Write efficient, clear code and articulate implementation decisions

Required Qualifications

1. 5+ years of hands-on development experience in investment banking IT
2. Strong expertise in Core Java with knowledge of concurrency and Spring framework
3. Experience in end-to-end design, development, and support of financial markets systems
4. Experience with real-time, event-driven architectures
5. FX Options trading technology experience and derivatives knowledge
6. Fluent in English (speaking and writing)

Skills & Competencies

1. Excellent Java development skills with strong software design principles and ability to write robust code with test suites
2. Self-starter capable of driving requirements and development efforts
3. Team player who engages effectively across departments
4. Strong ownership, outstanding problem-solving skills, and ability to handle ambiguity
5. Proven experience in agile development environments
6. Microservices and container technologies, particularly Docker
7. Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices
8. Advantageous: RX Java, distributed data stores, functional programming, and full-stack web development

Compensation & Benefits

Contract rate: £750 per day (PAYE Inside IR35), equivalent to £195,000 annually or £1,103.36 per day under Umbrella arrangements. Contract duration: 6 months with extensions for a long-term project (2 years minimum, potential 4-6 years). Additional benefits include 38 days annual leave and employer pension contributions.
