Job Description

About the Role

The Client is looking for Enterprise Architect to support our Chief Architect while he/she leads the Client through large-scale infrastructure transitions and cloud modernization. In this role, you'll be the connective tissue between Information Technology, agencies, and technical teams, spending a lot of time listening, facilitating workshops, and turning complex needs into clear technical architecture and delivery plans

There are 2 positions

Position 1

  1. Lead key disaster recovery and business continuity efforts, including architecture for critical facilities such as 911 and backup sites.
  2. Assess the current state (RTO/RPO, DR plans, risks) and define the target state with clear, actionable DR architectures.
  3. Shape secure remote access and perimeter defense patterns with security and network teams-focusing on principles and capabilities, not just products.
  4. Partner with domain admins to improve Active Directory and identity architecture, and help define roles and responsibilities (RACI) for core services.
  5. Guide network segmentation and the retirement of legacy network overlays to improve security and resilience.
  6. Work with application, database, and infrastructure teams to improve observability-so issues are detected early and recovery is faster.
  7. Translate technical risks and options into clear language for the CIO, senior leadership, and agency stakeholders, enabling informed decisions.

Position 2

  1. Serve as the primary architectural liaison for major facility move outs and large scale workload shifts, planning how to address capacity gaps and move enterprise platforms to scalable cloud infrastructure.
  2. Work with infrastructure and database teams to:
    • Evaluate storage capability gaps.
    • Oversee hardware and software lifecycle strategies.
    • Run archive and retention proof of concepts (POCs) to reduce cost and risk.
  3. Partner with desktop engineering to define:
    • Modern endpoint management capabilities.
    • Security baselines for devices and workspaces.
    • Strategies for "modern workplace" provisioning (on prem, hybrid, and cloud).
  4. Align cross functional requirements for critical communication systems, including:
    • Messaging platform upgrades.
    • Contact center capabilities.
    • Unified paging and alerting architectures.
  5. Establish and evolve cloud governance models, including:
    • Landing zone and account/subscription structures.
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards and patterns.
    • Preparation of materials and options for Architecture Review Board (ARB) discussions.
  6. Facilitate workshops with agencies and technical teams to surface requirements, constraints, and opportunities, and translate them into practical roadmaps.

Scope and Deliverables Include:

Serve as the primary architectural liaison for major technology initiatives and assessments underway. Serve as a Technical discovery & systems architect responsible for mapping, documenting, and baselining current-state enterprise IT architecture across on-premises data centers and hybrid-cloud environments.

Work across IT Teams to:

  • Perform Technical reviews of systems currently within the enterprise.
  • Produce authoritative current-state artifacts (system topologies, data flow diagrams, network dependency matrices, and service catalogs)
  • Map out and evaluate current enterprise storage platforms, capabilities, and gaps.
  • Map our current observability tools and architecture
  • Run archive and retention proof-of-concepts (POCs) to reduce cost and risk.
  • Comprehensive Current-State Enterprise Architecture Documents

What Client is looking for:

  • A strong communicator who can lead workshops and explain complex infrastructure and cloud topics to both technical teams and senior leaders.
  • A collaborator who enjoys working across infrastructure, cloud, database, desktop, security, and agency teams to get shared solutions.
  • Someone who can bring structure to large, complex systems and projects, and turn them into clear plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build consensus in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, shifting environment, learning quickly and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Experience working in government or public sector environments is preferred (but not required)
