Job Description
Role: Director of Data Privacy & Compliance
Location: Remote
Duration: 6 Months of Contract to Hire
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve enterprise data privacy and compliance strategies.
- Lead cross-functional privacy initiatives involving Legal, IT, Security, Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders.
- Own and maintain the organization's privacy roadmap and associated work programs.
- Lead or support implementation and ongoing operation of privacy management platforms and related tooling.
- Own the Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) process and ensure requests are fulfilled accurately and within applicable timelines.
- Develop and maintain the organization's Record of Processing Activities (ROPA).
- Support development and maintenance of data governance, data protection, and data-handling policies and procedures.
- Oversee development and maintenance of enterprise data inventories.
- Lead records management and retention processes to ensure information is maintained in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, assess, document, and mitigate privacy and data-protection risks.
- Develop and deliver privacy awareness and training initiatives across the organization.
- Collaborate with technical teams to implement privacy and data-protection capabilities that meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Provide regular privacy program, risk, and project updates to senior leadership.
- Lead and develop staff within the Privacy & Compliance function.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience with records management, retention, and compliance requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of data privacy, data protection, governance, and regulatory compliance practices.
- Experience implementing or operating data classification and data-protection programs.
- Experience working with both relational and unstructured data environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive organizational change.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience managing staff and/or leading a Privacy & Compliance function.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- IAPP certification, such as CIPP, CIPM, or CIPT.
- Experience implementing or managing modern privacy platforms such as OneTrust or comparable Microsoft privacy/data-management solutions.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, including cloud services and data-platform technologies.
- Familiarity with relational database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, and Azure SQL.
- Experience applying cybersecurity best practices to data protection and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of inclusive design principles and digital accessibility standards.
