Information Architect

Permanent | Hybrid, Lancashire | Data Architecture | Enterprise Architecture

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Information Data Architect to design, develop and evolve information architecture across complex enterprise environments. This role will play a key part in shaping data models, improving architecture design and ensuring information solutions align with wider business and enterprise architecture strategies. Working closely with stakeholders, architects and technical teams, you will influence critical design decisions and drive improvements in how information is structured, governed and utilised across the organisation.

You'll join a data-driven environment where information is recognised as a strategic asset. Working with advanced data platforms, business systems and enterprise architecture tools, you will support the development of robust data foundations that enable smarter decision-making and long-term organisational success. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to enterprise-wide data and information architecture whilst helping shape future data strategy and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models across multiple business domains.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions meet strategic, technical and operational requirements.
  • Support data integration initiatives and information flows, ensuring consistency, quality and interoperability across systems.
  • Define and apply data architecture standards, frameworks and best practices across the organisation.
  • Provide expert guidance on data architecture approaches, principles and governance.
  • Support information architecture activities that enable scalable, reusable and maintainable data solutions.
  • Contribute to enterprise architecture initiatives, ensuring data architecture aligns with wider technology and business strategies.
  • Produce architecture documentation, models and artefacts using recognised architecture repositories and tooling.
  • Participate in design reviews, governance forums and architecture assurance activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, accessibility, consistency and reuse across the enterprise.

Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience across data architecture disciplines, including conceptual, logical and physical data modelling.
  • Experience applying one or more recognised data architecture modelling approaches or notations such as ArchiMate, SysML, UML, XML or XSLT.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, relational databases, interface design and data structures.
  • Proven experience developing scalable data models and information architecture solutions using recognised architecture repositories such as BizzDesign, Sparx EA or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, applying structured thinking to business and technical challenges.
  • Experience using recognised external data architecture standards and frameworks, including ISO, BSI, ASD S-Series, OAGi or equivalent.
  • Experience working within complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders and interconnected systems.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data governance and information management initiatives.
  • Understanding of modern data platforms, analytics ecosystems and cloud-based data technologies.
  • Experience working within highly regulated sectors such as defence, aerospace, government or critical national infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and cross-functional teams.

The successful candidate will deliver robust, scalable and well-governed information architecture that supports both business objectives and enterprise strategy. They will establish clear data standards, improve consistency and integration across systems, and ensure data assets are structured to support future growth and innovation. Success will be measured through the delivery of high-quality architecture outcomes, improved data accessibility and governance, and the effective adoption of enterprise-wide data architecture principles.
