Position Overview
The Principal Business Intelligence Developer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise reporting, analytics, and data solutions across clinical, operational, and financial areas.
This role will work with healthcare and business stakeholders to translate complex reporting needs into reliable data models, pipelines, dashboards, and executive-level insights. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on expertise in SQL, ETL development, Epic healthcare data, Tableau, and modern data-engineering technologies, along with the ability to establish technical standards and guide other BI professionals.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise business intelligence solutions supporting clinical, operational, financial, and executive reporting.
• Build scalable data pipelines, data models, and transformation processes using SQL, Python, ETL tools, and Databricks.
• Develop reports and analytics using Epic Clarity data to support clinical and healthcare-related business needs.
• Create interactive Tableau dashboards that clearly communicate key performance indicators, trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Use Tableau Prep and related data-engineering tools to clean, combine, transform, and prepare data for reporting and analysis.
• Develop financial reporting solutions and support reporting needs involving Workday Worksheets and Workday reporting.
• Partner with business leaders, clinical teams, analysts, and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective data and reporting solutions.
• Serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert in business intelligence tools, ETL processes, data architecture, and reporting best practices.
• Provide technical guidance, design recommendations, and mentoring to BI developers and other members of the data and analytics team.
• Establish and maintain development standards, documentation, data definitions, and quality-control processes.
• Validate the accuracy, consistency, and performance of reports, dashboards, data pipelines, and analytical solutions.
• Ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and security of institutional and healthcare data.
• Troubleshoot complex data, reporting, and performance issues across multiple systems and data sources.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, modernize data solutions, and expand the organization’s analytics capabilities.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, analytics, data engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced SQL skills and hands-on experience developing complex queries, stored procedures, data transformations, and ETL processes.
• Experience designing and developing enterprise dashboards and reports using Tableau.
• Experience working with Epic Clarity or other complex healthcare data sources.
• Experience supporting clinical, operational, or financial reporting and analytics.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, data quality, and reporting architecture.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex BI initiatives and provide technical direction to others.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Epic Databricks or Databricks-based data engineering.
• Proficiency with Python for data processing, automation, or analytics.
• Experience with Tableau Prep.
• Experience developing Workday Worksheets or Workday reports.
• Experience creating executive dashboards and KPI reporting.
• Experience working with sensitive healthcare or institutional data.
• Knowledge of healthcare data privacy, security, and governance standards.
