Principal Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Bristol
Working: Hybrid
Salary: Up to £75,000 DOE

We are working with an established technology business developing safety-critical embedded software looking for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join their Bristol-based engineering team.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on developing safety-critical embedded software, with particular emphasis on Embedded C and RTOS technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical aspects of embedded software projects.
• Design, develop and test low-level embedded software.
• Work extensively with C, assembler and RTOS technologies.
• Contribute to software architecture and technical design.
• Debug hardware/software integration issues.
• Lead code reviews and promote software best practices.
• Support safety-critical validation, certification and compliance.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers.

Key Requirements

• Strong commercial experience in Embedded Software Engineering.
• Excellent Embedded C skills.
• Strong RTOS experience ideally FreeRTOS or SAFE RTOS.
• Low-level embedded experience, ideally ARM Cortex.
• Experience within a safety-critical environments
• Experience with embedded networking such as TCP/IP and UDP.
• Experience with software architecture, requirements and configuration management.
• Degree or equivalent in an engineering/science/technical discipline.
