Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly and quarterly accounting entries and account reconciliations related to ceded/assumed reinsurance activity, including premiums, allowances, settlements, reserves, and receivables arising under treaty agreements.
- Support the monthly and quarterly financial close process through the preparation of accurate and timely reinsurance accounting and supporting analyses.
- Assist with the preparation of U.S. GAAP and Statutory financial reporting related to reinsurance transactions and balances.
- Reconcile reinsurance activity with actuarial reporting, policy administration systems, and general ledger balances.
- Prepare settlement statements and coordinate timely settlement of balances with reinsurance counterparties.
- Support the onboarding and implementation of new reinsurance treaties and third-party reinsurance arrangements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Actuarial, Investments, and Operations teams, as well as external reinsurance partners.
- Help identify and implement process improvements, controls, and reporting infrastructure to support the team as it scales.
- Assist with ad hoc requests, audit support, and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience in reinsurance accounting required, ideally gained within the life and annuity insurance industry.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting principles as they relate to reinsurance.
- CPA (active or in progress) preferred, but not required.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external counterparties.
- A self-starter mindset with comfort operating in a lean, fast-paced, and growing environment.
