Job Description

Job Title: Eligibility Hearing Officer (Medical Hearing Officer)

Location: Richmond, VA — In-Person

Job Type: Contract

Experience: 3+ years in legal, administrative, or regulatory environment

Job Overview

 

Our client is seeking an experienced Eligibility Hearing Officer to independently manage an administrative caseload within a government agency setting. This role requires strong legal reasoning, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to apply federal and state laws to reach legally supportable conclusions. The position is fully in-person at a state agency headquarters in Richmond, VA.

Key Responsibilities

 
  • Independently manage a caseload to meet established timeframes and deadlines
  • Apply rules to facts to reach logical, legally supportable conclusions
  • Research, interpret, and apply federal and state complex laws, regulations, policies, and case law
  • Conduct legal analysis and produce clear legal writing
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Exercise independent judgment across a broad range of decision-making situations
  • Apply knowledge of programs, operations, and administrative policies in a government or legal setting

Required Skills

 
  • Knowledge of administrative law and/or appeals procedures
  • Considerable experience with legal research methodologies, including computerized legal research
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint; Adobe Pro
  • Experience interpreting and analyzing complex federal and state regulations
  • Strong legal writing and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record

  • Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate across teams
  • Strong organizational, logistics, and critical thinking skills

Location & Work Model

 

Fully in-person at DMAS HQ, Richmond, VA. Business casual dress. Parking garage on-site (cost responsibility of the employee). Work hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
