Lead Engineer

Lead Engineer<br />Swindon<br />£60,000 - £70,000 + 10% Bonus<br />We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing business working on complex, bespoke machinery and equipment. This is a varied, customer-facing role for someone with a strong mechanical engineering background who enjoys being involved in the full engineering process.<br />Lead Engineer Roles and

Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical direction and mechanical design of complex machinery, mechanisms and bespoke equipment
• Produce and check 3D CAD designs and 2D manufacturing drawings, ideally using Autodesk Inventor
• Produce and verify engineering calculations and ensure designs meet required standards
• Review designs for manufacture and act as the technical authority for engineering queries
• Take ownership of engineering projects from initial enquiry through to successful completion
• Coordinate engineering documentation, workshop activities, resources and project programmes
• Monitor projects against cost, time and quality targets
• Work directly with customers to understand requirements and provide technical support
• Provide engineering input into bids, estimates, proposals and project budgets
• Lead, mentor and support the engineering team
• Get involved with hands-on mechanical build, assembly, fitting and development where required
• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, production and commercial teams<br />Lead Engineer Ideal Candidate:
• Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar, or equivalent industry experience
• Strong mechanical engineering background with experience designing complex or bespoke machinery
• Experience taking technical ownership of projects from concept through to completion
• Previous experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or line management
• Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally Autodesk Inventor, with experience producing 2D manufacturing drawings
• Good knowledge of GD&amp;T to BS8888:2020 and engineering calculations
• Strong understanding of design for manufacture and manufacturability
• Commercially aware with an understanding of project budgets, costs and resource planning
• Confident communicating with customers, suppliers and internal teams
• Able to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines with a proactive and practical approach<br />Lead Engineer
