Data they gather is highly sensitive data
• All customers really ask security based questions
• Have to deploy in a different way-- how it's currently done is antiquated, moving into being able to deploy different microservices in Kubernetes, have to do this with iTom
• Platforms are still being developed so right now a lot of the work comes because of this, still in the beginning of the process of modernizing the platform
• Going to have to deploy at the Edge
• Portions of iCloud will have to deploy at the Cloud
This is why it's more DevSecOps focused

Deployment with the new microservices, pipelines, sound charts, troubleshooting
Grafana, they will have to work with

25% of the job is going to be supporting the legacy application
• Overtime, expectation this time will keep shrinking because moving to new platform
Role Overview
The team is in the early stages of a major application modernization initiative, with iTom being the largest and most critical application undergoing transformation.
• iTom's current architecture and deployment model are antiquated and need to be significantly modernized.
• The application handles highly sensitive data, so security is an important consideration throughout the modernization effort.
• The new environment will move toward microservices deployed through Kubernetes.
• Deployment will span both Edge and Cloud environments, making this a fairly strong DevSecOps-focused role.
• iTom is used across most, if not all, of their rigs, so this is a business-critical modernization initiative.
• This work will ultimately serve as a blueprint for modernizing smaller applications across the organization.
What This Person Will Be Doing
Primary responsibilities will include:
• Deploying new microservices within Kubernetes
• Building/supporting deployment pipelines
• Working with Helm charts (assuming "sound charts" in the notes was intended to be Helm charts)
• Troubleshooting deployments and platform issues
• Working with Grafana and observability/monitoring tooling
• Supporting deployments across Edge and Cloud environments
• Incorporating security into the deployment and DevOps process
• Supporting portions of the existing legacy application while the modernization is underway
Legacy vs. Modern Work
This is not a 100% greenfield/modern environment yet.
• Approximately 25% of the role will initially involve supporting the legacy application.
• Some technologies are older, with Fortran being one of the oldest mentioned.
• The expectation is that the amount of legacy support will continue to decrease as iTom moves to the new platform.
• The majority of the opportunity is centered around the modernization effort and new deployment architecture.
