Sr. Yard Operations Manager (Bilingual English/Korean)

Type: Full-Time

Location: Matteson, IL (Location subject to change within the surrounding area.)

Responsibilities

1. Yard Operations Management

• Oversee daily yard operations to ensure smooth and efficient workflows.
• Manage trailer receiving, staging, parking, and dispatch activities.
• Optimize yard space utilization and ensure proper trailer placement.
• Monitor daily operational volumes and yard capacity.
• Coordinate yard activities to meet customer requirements and operational schedules.

2. Transportation & Capacity Management

• Coordinate transportation resources to support daily yard operations.
• Monitor truck and driver availability to maintain sufficient transportation capacity.
• Develop plans to accommodate increased shipment volumes and business growth.
• Coordinate with carriers and dispatch teams to minimize delays and improve operational efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to optimize transportation costs and equipment utilization.

3. Team Management & Leadership

• Supervise daily tasks and responsibilities of yard team members.
• Assign workloads and establish clear roles and responsibilities.
• Evaluate employee performance and productivity.
• Provide training, coaching, and guidance to team members.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

4. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with yard safety procedures and company policies.
• Conduct regular yard inspections to identify potential safety hazards.
• Ensure proper trailer parking, movement, and equipment handling.
• Investigate and promptly report accidents, incidents, and near misses.
• Implement corrective actions to prevent recurring safety issues.

5. Customer & Carrier Coordination

• Maintain effective communication with customers, carriers, and warehouse personnel.
• Coordinate daily operational requirements and resolve service-related issues.
• Respond promptly to customer requests and operational disruptions.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with transportation partners.
• Ensure service quality and customer satisfaction.

6. Performance Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including operational volume, on-time performance, and productivity.
• Track yard capacity, trailer inventory, and equipment utilization.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
• Analyze operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Report major issues, risks, and improvement plans to management.

7. Cost Control & Operational Efficiency

• Monitor operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Optimize labor allocation, yard space, and transportation resources.
• Reduce unnecessary trailer movements, waiting times, and equipment downtime.
• Evaluate operational processes to improve productivity and cost efficiency.
• Support budget planning and cost management initiatives.

8. Business Growth & Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to expand yard operations and transportation capacity.
• Develop plans to support increased customer volumes and future business expansion.
• Establish standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and enhance existing processes.
• Assess operational risks and develop contingency plans.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen service quality and competitiveness.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a team of 10 or more employees.
• 5+ years of experience in yard or warehouse operations, preferably in battery or hazardous materials logistics.
• Strong understanding of logistics operations, transportation coordination, and inventory management.
• Knowledge of safety regulations applicable to battery storage and transportation.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and standard office software.
• Fluency in Korean and English, both verbal and written, is required.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is between $130,000–$160,000 yearly, and your base salary will depend on your experiences, qualifications, and skills.
