Field Technician – Telecom / Data Center
Location: * — 100% Travel
Employment Type: W2 Contract
Duration: 12+ Months
Travel Requirements
100% travel within the United States is required for this position. Approved travel expenses are covered.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Field Technician to support telecom, data center, and optical transport deployments across the United States. The role will involve hands-on fiber installation, optical testing, telecom equipment installation, power and grounding, commissioning, troubleshooting, and network migration activities.
The technician will independently execute field deployments and coordinate with engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure safe, reliable, and timely completion of field activities.
Key Responsibilities

• Perform fiber installation, routing, patching, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration activities.
• Perform fusion splicing and optical fiber testing.
• Install, rack, stack, cable, commission, and decommission telecom and network equipment.
• Perform OTDR, Optical Power Meter (OPM), and Visual Fault Locator (VFL) testing.
• Perform -48V DC power termination and grounding activities.
• Work with BDFB, rectifiers, battery plants, fuse panels, and related DC power systems.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, Methods of Procedure (MOPs), site layouts, and installation documentation.
• Troubleshoot fiber, optical transport, network, power, and installation issues.
• Perform commissioning, turn-up, provisioning, and network migration activities.
• Support transport troubleshooting and resolution of field-level technical issues.
• Execute network migrations and hot-cut activities in accordance with approved procedures.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and site teams to complete field deployments.
• Provide technical guidance and support to field technicians as needed.
• Document installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on telecom, data center, optical transport, or related field experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with fiber installation and troubleshooting.
• Experience with OTDR and optical testing equipment.
• Experience with fusion splicing.
• Experience with rack-and-stack activities and structured cabling.
• Hands-on experience with -48V DC power and grounding systems.
• Experience with BDFB, rectifiers, battery plants, and fuse panels.
• Experience working in Central Office and/or telecom environments.
• Experience with commissioning, equipment turn-up, and provisioning.
• Experience troubleshooting optical transport and network systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, MOPs, and site documentation.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate field activities.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the United States as required for the role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ciena 6500 and/or WaveServer platforms.
• Experience with DWDM and OTN/optical transport technologies.
• Experience with Ciena optical transport solutions.
• Experience supporting telecom networks operated by major carriers.
• Experience with network migrations and hot cuts.
• Experience with production turn-up, provisioning, and transport troubleshooting.
