Quality Leadership in a Modern Radiotherapy Department

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Radiographer to join our leadership team as Quality & Governance Lead Radiographer. This is a unique opportunity to influence and shape the quality agenda within a progressive Radiotherapy Service, leading on clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and organisational learning.

Working closely with clinical, scientific, and managerial colleagues, you will ensure robust governance arrangements are in place to support safe, effective, and compassionate care. You will oversee audit, risk management, incident reporting and investigation, policy management, accreditation activity, and the implementation of service improvements arising from governance processes. You will also support the ongoing development of our ISO 9001-accredited Quality Management System and governance platform (QPulse), ensuring they effectively underpin quality assurance and continuous improvement across the service. The role provides the opportunity to maintain clinical practice within a specialist area of the department.

We operate a highly sophisticated, completely paperless department integrated through ARIA V15.6. You will have the opportunity to maintain your clinical skills in Pre-Treatment, Treatment, DXR, or Brachytherapy while working with state-of-the-art equipment, including:

• Four TrueBeam 3.0 linear accelerators with advanced IGRT imaging, including online 4D CBCT, iCBCT, and triggered imaging.
• Advanced motion management technologies, including 6DOF couches for Head & Neck, Upper GI and Lung SABR, alongside abdominal compression immobilisation.
• A wide-bore Siemens GO Sim CT scanner, Xstrahl Orthovoltage service, dedicated Brachytherapy suite, and established on-treatment review service.

Driving Excellence in SABR and Clinical Trials

We are a progressive centre with a rapidly expanding SABR portfolio. We currently deliver SABR for lung, node, bone, prostate, and spine tumours and are actively expanding into adrenal, kidney, and liver SABR treatments. Innovation is central to our service, and we continue to recruit into leading clinical trials, including STAMPEDE 2 and POINTER-PC.

Job Summary:

• Lead the radiotherapy incident & Risk management programme
• Lead the governance assurance and continuous improvement of the QMS
• Coordinate external audits, inspections and continuous QI activities
• Support creation and delivery of the annual clinical governance program
• Support the Oncology IT manager to submit monthly submissions to the Radiotherapy Dataset (RTDS)
• Ensure the promotion of high quality, evidence-based, person-centred care throughout the service. In close liaison with the Radiotherapy Services Manager, Head of Radiotherapy, Radiotherapy Physics department, radiographers and the wider multi-professional team.
• Provide leadership, supervision and support to staff including regular 1-1’s and appraisals.
• Maintain radiographic skills in one clinical area to maintain competence & support good governance practice     is maintained within the department.

Essential

• DCR(T), BSc (hons) Therapeutic Radiotherapy or equivalent
• HCPC registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer
• Relevant postgraduate education to Master level

Desirable

• Healthcare related management qualification or training
• Auditor training to ISO 9001 standard

Experience

• Significant previous NHS experience, demonstrating an understanding of the operational requirements of a radiotherapy service
• Significant previous experience of leading and managing teams
• Demonstrable previous experience of staff management
• Experience of a broad range of radiotherapeutic practice and techniques to include applications of quality assurance in radiotherapy
• Previous experience of undertaking audit
• Previous experience of undertaking improvement projects

Skills and Knowledge

• Evidence of CPD
• Understanding of the principles of quality management and the ISO9001 standard
• Knowledge and understanding of both standard and non-standard simple and complex radiotherapy treatment techniques
• Knowledge of radiotherapy peer review standards
• High level understanding of the radiotherapy regulatory environment
• Significant use of a wide range of radiotherapy equipment
• Highly numerate and literate
• Demonstrable skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications to gather data, compile information and produce reports
• Ability to make independent judgements / decision, ability to solve complex problems
• Physically capable of performing and conducting tasks required in the radiotherapy environment
• Ability to prioritise and complete tasks to deadlines
• Ability to critically evaluate radiotherapy practice
• Capable of communicating effectively with all staff groups, patients, carers and trainees, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work under pressure
• Proven track record of successfully working with in a multi-professional team
• Ability to lead a team effectively
