Job Description

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced FHIR Data Engineer – Manager Level to lead and support the design, development, and implementation of healthcare data solutions centered around HL7 FHIR standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience working with healthcare/FHIR data, data engineering, and modern cloud data platforms. Experience with AWS and/or Databricks is highly preferred.

This role will work closely with healthcare business stakeholders, architects, data scientists, engineering teams, and other technology leaders to develop scalable, secure, and high-quality healthcare data solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the development of healthcare data engineering solutions using HL7 FHIR standards.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for FHIR and other healthcare data formats.
  • Translate healthcare data requirements into technical data models, pipelines, transformations, and integration solutions.
  • Work with FHIR resources such as Patient, Encounter, Observation, Condition, Medication, Practitioner, Organization, Procedure, DiagnosticReport, and related resources.
  • Develop processes for ingesting, transforming, validating, normalizing, and integrating FHIR data.
  • Ensure healthcare data solutions meet requirements for data quality, security, privacy, governance, and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to establish scalable FHIR data architecture and integration patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers and development teams.
  • Partner with healthcare stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex data pipeline, integration, and data quality issues.
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices around development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Support cloud-based data platforms and contribute to modernization initiatives.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and strategic data initiatives.
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, healthcare technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience working with HL7 FHIR healthcare data.
  • Experience designing and developing data pipelines and data integration solutions.
  • Strong SQL and experience with modern data processing technologies.
  • Experience working with APIs, JSON, RESTful services, and healthcare data interoperability.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data concepts and workflows.
  • Experience leading technical projects, mentoring engineers, or managing engineering teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AWS services and cloud-based data engineering.
  • Experience with Databricks, including Delta Lake, Spark, notebooks, workflows, or related technologies.
  • Experience with healthcare data platforms and interoperability initiatives.
  • Knowledge of additional healthcare standards such as HL7 v2, CDA/CCDA, or US Core.
  • Experience with FHIR APIs, FHIR servers, or FHIR-based integration platforms.
  • Experience with data lakes, lake houses, ETL/ELT pipelines, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience with Python, PySpark, or Scala.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulatory.
