"I strongly believe in the importance of the work I do. Drinking water cannot be recalled if it hasn't met water quality standards - and waterborne pathogens have the potential to cause ill health. For these reasons, every effort must be taken to ensure our drinking water is safe to use before it's introduced into the receiving distribution system.
As a Senior Drinking Water Quality Advisor, I'm in constant contact with our water treatment plant operators to make sure we're providing drinking water that meets the stringent standards set by the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. In my line of work you start each day not knowing exactly how it will unfold in an ever changing environment. My specific area of responsibility includes our two Mt Crosby water treatments plants, which together provide 40% of South East Queensland's drinking water, as well as the supply system pipelines which stretch from Robina to Noosa.
I provide advice on how we maintain drinking water quality during day to day operations, as well as during pipeline directional changes or extreme weather events. This can cover things like appropriate disinfection methods, interpreting water quality results or adjustments to the operation of the water treatment plants.
The people really make the job for me. The water quality team is like a family; we look out for each other. The operational staff who manage the water treatment plants have a huge responsibility and are very dedicated and passionate about the work they do. I also work closely with our water supply providers, who supply the water to homes and businesses.
I completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Aquatics and got my start in the food and beverage manufacturing industry as a laboratory technician I ended up in a quality role before joining Seqwater and I've been here now for more than 12 years. In Australia, people tend to take clean drinking water for granted but producing it is a very complex and challenging process. I'm looking forward to the industry embracing new technologies and seeing how that improves our processes and the way we treat water. "
