Job Overview

 

Our client is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL / Yugabyte Database Engineer to join their team in Phoenix, AZ. This role is focused on installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, deploying, and operating Yugabyte and Postgres-compatible database systems at enterprise scale. The engineer will evaluate new and upgraded offerings, document best practices, and support hosting, DBA, and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

 

• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and deploy Yugabyte and PostgreSQL-compatible databases
• Evaluate new Yugabyte and Postgres-compatible database offerings for enterprise use
• Design and manage intra- and inter-data-center high availability configurations, replication, and failover
• Handle cluster management, automated provisioning, and rolling upgrades
• Implement backup & restoration, security mechanisms, health monitoring, and alerting
• Document, present, and explain techniques, patterns, and best practices to engineering teams
• Apply knowledge of DBMS concepts including ACID, CAP, and consistency models
• Tune performance using knowledge of Yugabyte internals such as sharding and replication settings

Required Skills

 

• PostgreSQL DBA with enterprise-scale deployment experience
• Google Cloud Platform or any cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure)
• Python or similar programming/scripting language
• Data ingestion and processing skills
• Strong understanding of ACID, CAP theorem, and distributed database concepts
• High availability, fault tolerance, and replication experience

Preferred Skills

 

• Yugabyte database experience (training available for strong Postgres/Spanner/Cassandra/Oracle candidates)
• Knowledge of Google Spanner, Cassandra, or Oracle
• Unix command line proficiency
• Experience with VMware, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker
• Knowledge of hyper-converged and modern storage/compute infrastructures
• Experience as a Unix system administrator
