The Senior Manager, Clinical Trial Planning is an individual contributor focused on supporting Clinical Trial Teams (CTTs) in the effective management of clinical trial timelines across the portfolio. The role drives planning system enablement (Planisware), owns and maintains a standardized Microsoft Project (MSP) trial planning template, and develops high-quality timeline visualizations to support trial execution and governance decision-making.
The role partners closely with Global Trial Leaders (GTLs), who are accountable for the overall delivery of their trials and retain ownership of trial timelines within internal planning systems. The Clinical Trial Planner complements this accountability by ensuring planning data is structured, standardized, and translated into clear, actionable insights that enable effective execution and decision-making.
Responsibilities/tasks:
Planisware Enablement & Trial Support
  • Partner with GTLs across the portfolio to drive effective use of Planisware and ensure trial plans reflect agreed assumptions, dependencies, and execution strategy, while GTLs retain overall accountability.
  • Liaise with Development Program Managers (DPMs) to align trial-level plans with program- and asset-level timelines and milestones.
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Planning team to provide structured trial-level insights and recommendations that inform ongoing refinement and maintenance of Planisware templates and standards.

MS Project (MSP) Template Ownership & Standardization
  • Develop and maintain a fit for purpose Microsoft Project (MSP) Trial Planning template for GTL use across study phases.
  • Ensure alignment between the MSP template, Planisware, and portfolio-level planning standards.
  • Provide guidance to GTLs to promote consistent, high-quality timeline development using the MSP template.

Data Visualization
  • Develop and deliver clear visualization templates derived from Planisware and/or MSP data, displaying key milestones and activities.
  • Tailor visual outputs to support CTTs, governance, and leadership discussions.

Process & Tool Adoption
  • Act as a Planisware subject matter expert at the trial-support level.
  • Reinforce GTL training through hands-on guidance and real-time coaching.
  • Apply and promote standardized planning methodologies and visualization standards across the portfolio.

Governance Awareness & Decision Support
  • Prepare timeline views and supporting materials aligned with governance forum expectations (e.g., Project Board, Portfolio Board, Operational Review Committee).
  • Anticipate governance triggers based on timeline changes or emerging risks.
  • Translate planning data into concise, decision-ready visuals and summaries.

Requirements/Preferences:
Senior Manager
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Approximately 7-10+ years of experience in clinical trial operations, project management, trial planning, or related roles.
Demonstrated experience driving planning system adoption and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
Experience developing or standardizing planning templates, tools, or reporting frameworks across multiple studies.
