Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented HR Generalist / HR Analyst to support the Department of General Services (DGS) in Nashville, TN. This role handles day-to-day human resources operations across the complete employee lifecycle—including recruitment, onboarding, personnel transactions, payroll/timekeeping coordination, policy guidance, and offboarding. Working closely with the HR Director and agency partners, the position ensures accurate HR processing and maintains confidential employee records.

Client: State of Tennessee – Department of General Services (DGS)

Location: 312 Rosa L. Parks Avenue, Nashville, TN 37243

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2 to 5 days per week on-site in downtown Nashville based on operational needs)

Role Type: Contract (10/19/2026 – 02/28/2027)

Key Responsibilities

  • Personnel Transactions & Records: Prepare, process, track, and audit HR transactions—including hires, promotions, transfers, rate changes, retirements, and separations—ensuring accurate records in state systems.
  • Recruitment & Hiring Support: Support talent acquisition workflows by drafting job postings, preparing interview packages, coordinating scheduling with hiring managers, and maintaining tracking tools.
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Facilitate new hire orientation, verify required documentation, coordinate logistics, and manage employee exit/offboarding procedures in a timely manner.
  • Employee Relations & Inquiries: Serve as a primary point of contact for routine employee and manager inquiries regarding benefits, leave policies, payroll coordination, and HR procedures.
  • Process Support & Compliance: Assist with HR projects, reporting, process improvements, and communications while maintaining strict confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Substitution Allowed: Professional or paraprofessional human resources experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 4 years).
  • Core Competencies: Strong organizational skills, proficiency with HRIS databases and spreadsheets, excellent written/verbal communication skills, and customer service oriention.
