Quick Overview
Job Description
Location: San Francisco (Marketplace seat); San Francisco or New York City (Data Operations seat)
Work Model: Onsite, in-person
Industry: AI / human data infrastructure
Compensation: $205,000-$235,000 base, plus equity
About the Company
Our partner is a venture-backed AI data company whose product is the data itself: high-quality human and audio data used by leading AI research teams. The business has grown more than 3x since its Series B, the team has tripled to roughly 75 people in about five months, and a new San Francisco office recently opened. The operating culture is startup-fast and output-focused, with leaders expected to stay close to the work rather than manage from a distance.
The Opportunity
Our partner is hiring two General Managers, each owning a business area end to end: its P&L, the team of deployment and project operators inside it, and a product partnership that unblocks the whole team rather than one workstream. These are leadership seats, but at this stage they are hands-on ones, and the strongest candidates will still be comfortable doing operator-level work when the business needs it.
The two seats differ in background. The Marketplace GM, based in San Francisco, brings senior operations leadership from a large two-sided marketplace. The Data Operations GM, based in San Francisco or New York, has already run this kind of operation at scale in human data or AI data and can step in with little ramp. Both report to the Head of Operations, lead teams of roughly two to five people today, and sit at the top of our partner's hiring priorities this quarter.
Responsibilities
- Own the P&L for your business area, including its performance, margin, and growth
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of deployment and project operators
- Stay hands-on with operator-level execution alongside the team where the work demands it
- Partner with the product team at a program level to remove blockers for the entire area, not individual tasks
- Build and improve the systems, processes, and quality bar the business runs on
- Communicate performance, tradeoffs, and priorities clearly to leadership and to cross-functional partners
Requirements
- 5-10 years of relevant experience, with the strongest fit in the six-to-ten-year range
- Direct people-management experience, including leading a team through delivery and performance
- Demonstrated ownership of a P&L, business line, or equivalent commercial accountability
- Marketplace seat: senior operations leadership (senior manager or equivalent) at a large consumer or logistics marketplace
- Data Operations seat: prior GM-level or equivalent leadership of a human data, AI data, or voice AI operation at scale
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the executive presence to represent the business to leadership
- Willingness to work onsite in San Francisco, or in New York City for the Data Operations seat
