Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer to design, develop, optimize, and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable database systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, and cloud database technologies.

You will work closely with software engineers, DevOps, data engineers, and application teams to ensure database systems meet business, performance, reliability, and security requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance database architectures.
• Manage and optimize relational and/or NoSQL databases in production environments.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
• Develop and maintain database schemas, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other database objects.
• Design and implement high-availability, replication, backup, and disaster-recovery strategies.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and resource utilization.
• Troubleshoot complex database, performance, and production issues.
• Establish and enforce database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance standards.
• Collaborate with application developers to review database designs and optimize SQL queries.
• Support database migrations, upgrades, patching, and modernization initiatives.
• Automate database administration and operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Define and maintain database standards, best practices, documentation, and operational procedures.
• Mentor junior database engineers and provide technical leadership on database-related projects.
• Evaluate new database technologies and recommend solutions based on scalability, cost, performance, and business requirements.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or a related role.
• Strong hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, data modeling, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with database performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with high availability, replication, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with database security, authentication, authorization, and access management.
• Strong scripting/programming skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar.
• Experience with Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience working with Git and CI/CD practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with managed database services such as Amazon RDS/Aurora, Azure Database, Cloud SQL, or equivalent.
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, or Redis.
• Experience with database migration and modernization projects.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized database environments.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL/ELT, and large-scale data platforms.
• Experience designing systems for high transaction volumes and low-latency workloads.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
