DataCenter/Network SME

A globally leading consumer device company based in Cupertino, CA is looking for a Datacenter/Network Subject Matter Expert to help design and improve our widely distributed global satellite communications systems. You will be working with an international, collaborative team and multiple vendors to deliver the future of high-performance, best-in-class wireless communications for millions of company's customers.

Job Responsibilities:

• Build and improve global communications systems: architecture, requirements, technical budgets, performance assessment, and troubleshooting
• Work with internal teams and manage external suppliers and vendors so they deliver quality work on schedule
• Lead equipment upgrades and modifications in production environments
• Develop training programs, and train and mentor facility operators
• Adapt to changing priorities and handle ambiguous problems

Key Qualifications:

5+ years of experience with datacenters / critical infrastructure.

• Experience with datacenter / server room commissioning including Level 5 testing / Integrated Systems Tests.
• Knowledge of data center facilities design, commissioning, and operations
• Experience with facility and systems monitoring best practices, data analysis, incident management and troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, regulations and standards for datacenters (eg: ISO/IEC 22237, TIA-942, EN-50600).
• Experience with Satellite tracking ground antennas, and satellite uplink ground stations is a plus (or cellular sites).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, civil, fire system drawings and schematics.
• Experience working with Business Continuity Plans, Audits, Compliance, and Root Cause Analysis initiatives.
• Experience designing / deploying / maintaining Network Architectures.
• Experience with fiber builds, diversity etc.
• Experience with operating a high reliability service, focusing on improving uptime
• Ability and desire to work in a highly cross-functional team, spanning multiple time zones, operating at fast pace.
• Expert-level knowledge and support of data center operations, including electrical systems that support systems in high availability, high-risk, or high-reliability environments.
• 5+ years of experience working with physical servers, network equipment, and Out-of-Band hardware including facility controls is desired
• 5+ years of related experience in a critical facility environment.

Work Location: Remote. Will be 50% travel around the world. Must have passport and ability to work outside of the US.

1. Data center design (TIA-942 / EN 50600)
2. Commissioning and the tests needed to pass it
3. Electrical and/or mechanical (HVAC) design, ideally both
4. Civil or physical network design (fiber conduits, fiber entry)

• Background: Back-of-house facility engineering, such as electrical distribution, HVAC, generators, and panels, and knowing why each was installed and whether it meets facility capacity. Construction experience is a plus. Titles like Chief Engineer are a good fit. Racking and stacking servers or placing cabinets does not count.
• Electrical/mechanical depth: "More is better." At minimum, the person should read electrical one-lines and run capacity math for breakers and cooling.
• Voltage: Familiarity with U.S. 208V/480V three-phase and international 380/400/415V. Medium voltage is not required.
• International experience is preferred. No specific country is required.
• Satellite/RF experience is a bonus, not a must-have. The team can teach RF, but commissioning is much harder to teach.
