Fabricator – Plater | Airdrie, Lanarkshire, United Kingdom | On-site | £38,662 – plus shift allowance

The Role

  • Interpret engineering drawings, mark off materials, and prepare plate using methods such as oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding.
  • Assemble ship structures, ensuring all components are accurately fitted, faired, and tack-welded.
  • Fabricate ship items such as seats, ladders, false flooring, panels, hatches, and watertight doors.
  • Form materials using machine tools, including rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
  • Work within a team environment to produce high-quality steelwork for essential defence projects.

What You'll Need

  • A Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of core manufacturing processes and ability to complete tack welding to safety and quality standards.
  • Confidence and responsibility in operating oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
  • Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements, with experience in confined spaces or at height, supported by relevant safety certifications.
