Job Description

Senior Security Engineer

Seeking a Senior Security Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity with a client in South Sioux City, Nebraska. This is a remote position for candidates located in IA, NE, SD, MN, IL, KS, TX, TN, or FL, with one week of onsite onboarding and quarterly travel.

This role is replacing a senior member of a small security engineering team. The company needs someone who can provide technical leadership to three less-experienced engineers while remaining involved in security operations. You will direct projects, assign work, mentor the team, and serve as a senior technical resource when security issues require investigation or resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead security projects and provide technical direction across the security engineering team.
  • Assign and coordinate work for junior engineers while providing mentoring and technical support.
  • Support identity and access management, endpoint protection, email security, and privileged access management.
  • Work with security technologies such as Okta, CrowdStrike, Proofpoint, BeyondTrust, Azure, and Microsoft 365.
  • Support vulnerability management, incident response, security investigations, and security-control development.
  • Assist with user provisioning, security automation, and operational security support.
  • Deliver security training and participate in employee onboarding sessions.
  • Support security and compliance requirements within a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of security engineering, cybersecurity, or security operations experience.
  • Broad hands-on experience across security operations rather than specialization in only one security area.
  • Experience with identity management, endpoint security, email security, and privileged access management.
  • Experience supporting Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Experience with vulnerability management, incident response, and security controls.
  • Previous experience leading technical projects, assigning work, or mentoring less-experienced security engineers.
  • Ability to operate as a senior technical resource while remaining comfortable with hands-on security work.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information and provide training.
  • Experience within a highly regulated industry such as insurance, banking, finance, or healthcare preferred.
  • CISSP or equivalent senior-level security certification preferred. Security+, SSCP, or similar certification expected.

Location & Travel

  • Remote candidates must reside in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, Tennessee, or Florida.
  • Candidates must be available for one week of on-site onboarding in South Sioux City, Nebraska, and for approximately 3–4 days of on-site travel at least once per quarter. Additional travel may occasionally be required based on team or project needs.

This is a direct-hire opportunity. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. No third-party vendors.
