Job Description

Who are we?

XNRGY Climate Systems is a North American leader in the sustainable design and advanced manufacturing of custom air-treatment, thermal-management, and liquid-cooling systems. With decades of HVAC engineering and manufacturing expertise, XNRGY delivers innovative, energy-efficient solutions for mission-critical industries, including hyperscale and modular data centers, healthcare, clean rooms, life sciences, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing.

Our United States technology headquarters and manufacturing facility opened in Mesa, Arizona, in 2025. As XNRGY continues building its Service and Commissioning organization, we are seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer to support our growing installed base of chillers, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), and fan coil wall systems.

One position will be weighted toward chillers and refrigeration, while the other will focus more heavily on air-side equipment, electrical systems, and controls. Both positions carry the same core responsibilities, and product alignment will be based on each candidate’s experience.

The role

The Reliability Engineer is responsible for investigating field failures, determining their causes, developing corrective actions, and helping ensure that the same issue does not affect future units.

Working within Service Engineering, this position serves as a critical link between field teams and XNRGY’s Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Service Operations functions. The Reliability Engineer will lead warranty and defect investigations, manage service-parts data, provide senior technical escalation support, and translate field findings into product, process, and documentation improvements.

This is an opportunity to help build the systems used to support XNRGY’s growing mission-critical installed base. The investigation standards, service-parts structure, and escalation processes are being developed now, and the Reliability Engineer will play a central role in establishing them.

Field data, technical investigations, and product changes operate within one organization, creating a direct path from an equipment failure in the field to a verified corrective action on the production line.

Position details

  • Department: Service Engineering—Liquid Cooling & Mission Critical

  • Reports to: Manager, Service Engineering

  • Location: Mesa, Arizona

  • Employment type: Full-time

  • Travel: Approximately 30%, with periods of higher travel during significant field investigations

  • Openings: Two

  • Product lines: Chillers, CRAH units, and fan coil wall systems

What you will do

Warranty and defect investigation

  • Lead investigations into field failures as a member of the Warranty and Defect Investigation Team, from the initial field report through verified corrective-action closure.

  • Conduct structured root-cause analysis using 8D, five-whys, fault-tree analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, or another method appropriate to the problem.

  • Produce investigation reports that can withstand review by customers, suppliers, engineering teams, and warranty stakeholders.

  • Present findings and open actions to the Field Defect Committee.

  • Maintain an accurate action log that clearly distinguishes completed actions from unresolved items.

  • Determine whether failures result from design issues, manufacturing escapes, supplier defects, transit damage, installation conditions, or service errors.

  • Support cost recovery when evidence shows that responsibility falls outside XNRGY.

  • Analyze failures at the population level to identify patterns before they develop into larger service campaigns.

Service-parts data

  • Build and maintain the service bill of materials for assigned product lines.

  • Define which components are field-replaceable, the appropriate replacement level, and any related components required to complete the repair.

  • Own part supersessions, quarantines, and interchangeability requirements.

  • Ensure field teams are notified of changes before an incorrect or incompatible part is installed.

  • Partner with Service Logistics to establish stocking locations and quantities based on installed-base needs and observed failure rates.

  • Support the development and maintenance of a parts catalog that allows technicians and authorized service agents to identify and order the correct parts independently.

Technical escalation and field response

  • Serve as a senior technical escalation resource for field technicians, commissioning teams, and XNRGY’s certified service-agent network.

  • Provide remote support and travel to customer sites when the nature or severity of the problem warrants direct involvement.

  • Support system commissioning and validation under actual operating conditions.

  • Participate in functional performance testing and integrated systems testing when manufacturer involvement is required.

  • Respond to significant field events, establish the facts while evidence remains available, and produce a clear written record of the event.

  • Incorporate investigation findings into startup procedures and test scripts so future teams do not encounter the same issue.

Documentation and product change

  • Translate field findings into service bulletins, troubleshooting guides, revised startup procedures, and updates to installation, operation, and maintenance manuals.

  • Redline and update product drawings using computer-aided design tools to reflect field findings and serviceability improvements, working with the appropriate design authority.

  • Initiate and track engineering change requests arising from service experience.

  • Verify that completed product or process changes resolve the original problem under field conditions.

  • Produce practical technical documentation written for technicians working under real-world site conditions.

Training and knowledge transfer

  • Develop technical content for technician-certification programs, including diagnostic scenarios based on actual field failures.

  • Brief field teams and authorized service agents on new failure modes, product changes, and the technical reasoning behind them.

  • Mentor field technicians and junior engineers in evidence-based, structured diagnosis rather than parts substitution.

  • Help transfer field knowledge across Service, Commissioning, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of technical education and demonstrated engineering-level competence.

  • Military technical training combined with a strong field-service record may also satisfy the education requirement.

  • Five or more years of experience in field service, product support, sustaining engineering, or reliability engineering involving complex electromechanical equipment.

  • Experience supporting equipment used in mission-critical environments such as data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, healthcare, power generation, or similarly demanding operations.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting root-cause analysis on actual equipment failures using a structured methodology.

  • Ability to describe and defend completed investigations and their resulting corrective actions.

  • Strong diagnostic ability across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.

  • An evidence-based troubleshooting approach that identifies underlying causes rather than relying on repeated parts replacement.

  • Experience writing standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, service instructions, or other technical documentation used by field personnel.

  • Direct experience supporting field technicians, commissioning teams, or service operations.

  • Ability to establish credibility with experienced technicians and other professionals working directly on equipment.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to defend a technical position with engineers, customers, and suppliers.

  • Comfort working in a low-structure, high-ambiguity environment where processes are being developed alongside the work.

  • Authorization to work in the United States.

What will set you apart

  • HVAC and refrigeration experience, particularly involving centrifugal chillers, CRAH units, fan coil wall systems, or air-handling equipment.

  • Naval engineering experience in nuclear, conventional, surface, or submarine environments.

  • Commissioning experience on capital projects involving a formal commissioning process and third-party commissioning authority.

  • Experience with process piping and systems, including hydronic and refrigerant piping, valves, pumps, flow measurement, and system-level behavior.

  • Experience with variable-frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, and building-management-system integration using BACnet or Modbus.

  • Experience managing a service bill of materials, parts catalog, or service-spares strategy.

  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance-management systems, field-service platforms, or failure-data analysis and reporting tools.

  • Formal quality training in areas such as 8D facilitation, FMEA, Six Sigma, or supplier corrective-action management.

  • NFPA 70E qualification and OSHA construction-safety training.
