General Manager

General Manager - Full time on site - Northampton

I'm looking for someone to take full responsibility for a sizeable operation. 300,000 sq ft site with nearly 200 heads by 2027. You'll have a real say in how the site is ran, who you bring into the team and what standards you expect from day one. As the operation grows, you'll be the person making sure those standards hold up when things get busy.

What you'll be responsible for

You'll own the site P&L and make the day-to-day decisions on staffing, spending and priorities. You'll need to know what's driving the numbers and be able to act on them. If costs are rising, service is slipping or the team keeps having to work around the same problem, it's down to you to work out what needs to change and see it through.

Health and safety, quality, service and continuous improvement all sit with you. A big part of the job is building a management team you can trust to run their areas well. You'll set clear expectations, give people the room to do their jobs and know when to get involved yourself.

You'll also deal directly with customers. That means knowing how the operation is performing, being straight with them when something hasn't gone to plan and making sure that what you've agreed actually happens in practice.

Who I'd like to speak to

You'll have run a sizeable site of similar numbers/volumes, led a team of managers and had direct responsibility for the P&L. You might be a Site Director, Operations Director or General Manager. I'm interested in the decisions you've been trusted to make, how you've developed the people around you and what you've improved under your leadership.

You'll have the autonomy to run the site day to day. Some days that means sitting down with the numbers and deciding what the operation needs six months from now. Other days it means getting out on the floor, talking to the people doing the work and getting to the bottom of a problem that needs sorting that morning. You'll need to enjoy both.
