Canva is hiring a full-time Staff Front-End Engineer for Design Systems. The role focuses on evolving Canva's frontend stack by extending an existing React web component library into a portable React component library that renders via React DOM on web and React Native on mobile. The engineer will work on the Portable UI Platform and support multiple Canva surfaces that depend on this infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Own the Portable UI Platform
• Ship shared React components across web and React Native
• Abstract cross-platform complexity into the platform layer
• Set standards for how portable components are built, distributed, and consumed
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, team decisions, and day-to-day work
• Work with product teams across the company to understand needs and sequence work
• Lead strategic technical direction for the Design System Evolution team
• Help evolve the design system for AI-assisted workflows

What they're looking for

• Experience developing or leading a design system
• Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, Web APIs, JS/TS, and React
• Hands on experience with cross platform and cross device UI/UX development using React Native
• Proven track record of shipping large cross functional projects across multiple teams
• Ability to deliver highly reliable, scalable technical solutions
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work across cross functional teams
• Balance of big picture thinking and attention to detail
