Job Description
Position: Lead Power BI Developer
Location: Des Moines, IA 50309
Client: State of Iowa
Duration: 12+ Months
Job Description: We're seeking a seasoned Lead Power BI Developer to guide a team in modernizing reporting by migrating from BigQuery data marts to an enterprise SQL data warehouse and rebuilding legacy reports on the Power BI platform. You will provide technical leadership, establish best practices, and deliver high-quality, accessible reporting for daily operations, leadership, and analytics initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead redesign and modernization of legacy reports into scalable Power BI solutions
- Mentor and guide a team of 4+ Power BI developers; set standards and governance
- Collaborate with data engineers, ETL developers, and business partners to ensure accurate BigQuery data sourcing
- Produce visually compelling, accessible, and enterprise-grade reports aligned with governance and security standards
- Validate accuracy and reliability across all reporting products; create technical documentation and support materials
Required Skills:
- 5+ years hands-on Power BI development in an enterprise environment
- Strong ETL/BI tool experience and data modeling expertise
- Proven Technical Lead experience for teams of 4+
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Deep understanding of data visualization best practices and enterprise reporting standards
