Senior IT Software Engineer - Chicago, IL (Locals Only)

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Microservices, Cloud, and backend development.

The ideal candidate will design and develop scalable backend services, provide technical leadership, mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to Agile development teams.

Responsibilities

Design and develop backend RESTful APIs using Java and Microservices architecture.

Develop scalable and reliable backend services.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other developers.

Conduct code reviews and maintain high software quality standards.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and technical issues.

Lead development of new functionality and applications.

Work with cross-functional Agile/Scrum teams.

Develop application/interface code, technical documentation, and user guides.

Contribute to application architecture and technical decisions.

Design, develop, deploy, and maintain software at scale.

Required Technical Skills

10+ years of software development experience using Java

Strong experience with Java 17+

Spring Boot

RESTful API development

Microservices architecture

Experience with AWS or Azure

Experience with message streaming technologies such as:

Apache Kafka

AWS Kinesis

AWS SQS/SNS

RabbitMQ

ActiveMQ

Azure Event Hub

Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as:

AWS Aurora / RDS

DynamoDB

CI/CD experience with tools such as:

Jenkins

Azure DevOps

GoCD

Agile/Scrum development experience.

Strong understanding of application architecture patterns including:

Experience designing well-defined RESTful APIs.

Experience with Swagger, Postman, and API testing tools.

Experience with TDD/BDD.

Experience with testing tools such as Cucumber and Selenium.

Experience integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines.

AWS experience with technologies such as:

API Gateway

ALB/NLB

Fargate

Lambda

S3

CloudWatch

Experience debugging and maintaining applications on Linux/Unix platforms.

Experience with AI tools is a big plus.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.

Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.

Candidates without a degree must have 10+ years of relevant experience.
